| A smiling Libby … “Yeah, I got that one!” And, yes, she requested the pink shooting bench! |
At a recent Bushmaster Varmint Hunt in Wyoming, we had a chance to shoot with a lovely young lady named Libby. Libby – with the guidance of her father Karl – has been hunting varmints for years, and when they heard a group from Bushmaster wouldbe hunting in their area, they jumped at the chance to try a Bushmaster Varminter on some of the local prairie dogs.
Libby took to the Varminter like it was made for her – and was soon up to speed and making long range shots on the “prairie rats” bold, or foolish enough, to pop up from their burrows. “This is easy to shoot”, said Libby of her first experience with the AR Type platform rifle. The gas operating system in the Bushmaster Varminter tames the recoil of the .223 Remington cartridge so that any “recoil intimidation factor” is negated for younger shooters – of any gender. And, as Libby quickly found, the semi-auto operation offers the ability to make quick second shots without having to move off target or away from the scope picture.

| Target for the Day… and the Bushmaster proved equal to the task at 200 – 300 yards out. |
This young lady proved to have an excellent touch on the Two-Stage Competition Trigger in the Bushmaster Varminter, and helped the local rancher by eliminating a number of the pesky dogs that afternoon. Prairie Dogs number in the tens of thousands in that area of Wyoming – as well as throughout the West – where they do great damage to the land by digging burrow after burrow. And, the “dogs” create another concern for the ranchers when their herds of cattle wander into a “dog town” area, and risk the danger of broken legs by falling into the numerous burrows

Libby sighting in on a “Prairie Rat”. |
Libby knows how to handle a rifle – her father Karl has obviously taught her well. They’ll both be enjoying their new Bushmaster on hunts at prairie dog towns, as well as on some of the local coyote population. We wish her well, and have seen that she is one “straight shooter”!
